In this day and age, there are a multitude of reasons why people use cameras. We use them if we’re looking good on any particular day. We use them to document special occasions, in case memory ever fails us. And we certainly use them to document beautiful sights, whether natural or man-made. One of the main reasons why we use cameras today is to simply make ourselves look silly, however odd that might seem. There isn’t anything wrong with any of those reasons; you should take a photo whenever you want to, and certainly shouldn’t have to justify why. But cameras have become so commonplace that we forget easily that they were first invented for scientific purposes. And for that matter, that we still use high speed cameras and (more…)

Since the first Daguerreotype, photography has been evolving and taking the world by storm. At first disputed as a form of art, photography soon became so popular that instead of painting portraits, families would sit for mere minutes while a photo was produced.

It seemed as if the meeting would never end. After the second hour of listening to reports and watching computer generated graphics, the speaker may as well have been spewing colored confetti from his mouth rather than words because that is how much you were processing. He was covering too many numbers, talking too fast.
Unfortunately, the long three day meetings often ended this way. The managers and those people brought in to present the quarterly numbers lost their shine by the end of the last day. The schedule needed to be different. The heavy stuff needed to happen early in the week. And, most of all, presenters should be able to understand that two straight hours of attempting to digest the numbers the financial team had crunched simply was not possible.
You tried again to reposition yo (more…)
We have all seen some photo that just blew us away with its clarity despite the apparent motion being captured. Whether it is the still image of a hummingbird hovering over a flower, a tennis ball being crushed by a racket or drops of rain crashing onto pavement, some photographs seem to have the ability to do more than capture a great picture, they seem to stop time itself. It All Starts with the Shutter Speed
The shutter speed is one of the basic fundamental aspects of photography. This has been an important part of the medium from the beginning. The length of time the camera’s “shutter” is permitted to stay open (more…)
